Diabetes Mellitus (from Latin "mellitus" - sweet, honeyed) affects more than 3.5 million people in the UK, including 275,000 Scots. It’s associated with serious complications including heart disease, stroke, blindness, kidney disease and amputations leading to disability and premature mortality.

By 2025, it’s estimated that 5 million people in the UK will be living with the disease.

Bloodsugar is a unique typeface designed specifically to raise awareness of diabetes and hopefully find a cure.

Every time someone buys Bloodsugar Type One and Type Two, 100% of the proceeds will go directly to diabetes charities and causes.

Development notes.

Inspiration for Bloodsugar came from simple shapes such as circles, rectangles and hexagons, all occurring naturally in blood cells, sugar crystals, honeycomb and glucose molecular structure.

It’s a geometric sans-serif typeface that follows trends with a slight taste of retro here and there, but at the same time it adds (or removes) tiny details that make it stand out.

Best suited for headlines, Type1 and Type2 can be also used in combination with each other to express the duality/relationship of the two kinds of Diabetes.

Type One

Starting with sugar

- Thicker

- Sugar squared shapes and terminals [high blood glucose levels]

1

- Honeycomb counters distinctive traits
